Exclamation Acclimating Pietshmanni

I just got my WC cork barks in. Cork Barks really come in bad shape compared to the other species of uro's. I got phantasticus in my shipment too and they are near perfect. No mites, no signs of dehydration(though I'm supplementing anyway), and nice and fat. The pietshmanni, however, have a medium load of mites which I have some zoo-med Mite Off to hopefully remedy this. They also show lots of signs of dehydration (curling tails, eyes). I have them in quarintine tank with 90% humidity and an external fogger on low constantly going. I also have t-rex hydro-life to aid in this. So I have a bunch of resources... but I am not sure how to go about administering all this. I recently lost my really nice job because the company tanked, so I'd like to avoid vet fees (If I can). They don't look in dire shape, just typical wc conditions. They are very alert. None of them are sluggish. No signs of wounds or rots. Move very fast. Some of them have defecated and the stool looks good(not runny or odd looking). They have good weight. None of them are skinny.

I tried to give them some flavorless pedialyte which I used on my satanics, but they aren't prone to licking their snout for some reason. Maybe from shipping stress, but I dunno. So now for the Jump Start formula(Caloric Supplement & Appetite Stimulant). The directions tell me to squeeze a tiny bit directly into their mouth 3 times a day. I usually use the lick off snout technique, but this seems like it's going to be a challenge. I have multivitamins and calcium too. I have just never went this far trying to set a good foundation for WC. I usually pick out WC's at shows in good condition which needed very little from me. I haven't lost one yet, and trying to keep it that way. Any suggestions and pointers would help.

pietschmanni is normally one of the more bulletproof species, so all these measures you're taking might be a bit much. if you literally just got them in today, all this caloric supplement stuff is going above and beyond. i dont know that humidity needs to be kept so high as they need to have plenty of opportunity to drink. so spray as soon as the lights go out, and if it dries up quickly then spray again. even though i dont see uroplatus as bowl drinkers, it wouldnt hurt to keep a bowl of fresh water out.

i had a company ship me a corkbark a day before it was scheduled, so it sat out on the doorstep unnecessarily. when i got home and found it, i opened the box to find the gecko had tangled itself in long moss fibers. on top of that, it was dehydrated. but within a week or so, it bounced back just fine.

just let them do their thing. if you notice they arent eating or drinking after they've gotten a chance to settle in, then start taking additional steps. at the point if you just got them in, it's too early to be taking all these steps. you gotta give em a chance first.

Good idea. I have just been talking with some people that have had them, and their experience is that they sometimes drop like flies without all the meds. I think it might be best to walk the middle ground of let them settle in and proceed with the signs as I see them. They are just so rare that I might "kill them with love." I'm thinking I see the signs of dehydration so I am overdoing it so it would get better faster, but it won't change overnight. I'm trying to nip the problem in the bud, but that might cause problems in itself. I've been keeping satanics for a few years and cork barks are my absolute favorite and I want to do as much as I am capable of to keep my small group alive.

You might try some olive oil instead of the mite off. I've heard some of that stuff can be rather harmful, especially to geckos. I always use olive/vegetable oil on the mites on my wc uroplatus and it works really well.

Stay away from the jumpstart stuff...it usually causes diarrhea which will compound any dehydration issues you may have.
