Default More Phantasticus Hatchlings

I had a heck of a surprise last night when I found these two!

They are from my original pair! As a few of you know, I'd been having a heck of a time with this particular girls' eggs for a while. Hatched every egg from other girls so far...Just couldn't seem to hatch one from her. Anyway, we finally got it right!

On to the info...

Layed 1/20/09 Hatched 04/22/09

93 days at about 71f.

The incubation for these was something different for me. I rigged up a wine cooler set at 67 with some heat cable controlled by a herpstat set at 69.3 to maintain steady temps. The temps in the cup averaged 71, but the extremes were 70-72. Admittedly a bit counterproductive...but for what ever reason it worked where room temperature incubation had failed. Thanks Lawrence for the inspiration...however indirectly. The substrate was SHM from Wally (APS) in a prepunched 16 oz. deli cup.

A few old pics of the parents.

Mom - Andy

Dad - Archy

The enclosure

The female has been with me since 12/07 recieved as a wc juvenile. The male has been with me since 10/07, recieved as ltc.

I hope I didn't miss anything...but it's late so who knows

Thanks for looking!

So am I...I was starting to feel bad letting her do all the work and not getting things done on my end. Still don't understand what the problem was. Eggs set up identically were hatching, just not her's...

I have a couple clutches from her cooking now. Waiting on one more any day now. I'll be pulling her for a couple months after that one's laid. She hasn't taken a break for a couple months.

They're both just about through their first shed, I'll try to post some better pics when they get all cleaned up.

Default Updated pics and Q's

Here's a few updated pics. Looks like it may be a mixed sex clutch

Looks male to me

and the clutchmate... Hoping this one's a girl

This one seems to have a bit of a wavy tail. Has anyone seen this before with these guys? Any theories? I wonder if all the issues I've been having with the mother's eggs could be calcium related?

One last one just for fun... She was getting curious

Well done and nice record keeping! Don't worry about the wavy tail, it's common in hatchlings, especially those with longer tails. Keep them hydrated and cool.
