Default New to Uroplatus

Im sorry to make a new thread because im sure someone has asked this already, but I cant seem to locate the thread if they did. I am facinated by Uroplatus in general but know absolutely nothing about them. I bred Leopard Geckos in the past, but Leos are way to main stream and I am looking for some other fun projects. Can someone please direct me to a good caresheet for Uroplatus, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Are certain Species of Uroplatus easier to care for and breed than others? Any species for a novice to stay away from?

The best thing you can do is read the whole leaf tailed section of the forum. Your answers are in there and it would be beneficial to become familiar with all of the species before you decide to purchase any. There is a ton of good information.

ok so about 2 years ago i was in your possition, the first time i saw a phantasticus,i knew i had to work with these beuties, anyway after doing a little research i realised that uroplatus are very very hard to come accross in europe, especialy phantasticus
perhaps the most common and easy to keep are guentheri, which i managed to get a pair of(eggs cooking )
as above you realy want to read through this section of the forum,
your lucky as these guys are still pretty redily avaiable in the states, but this shouldnt make u rush out and buy,
the thing is because of the ban on certain animals from madagasgar to the eu,most uros for sale in europe are cb,where as in the states these guys are being wc and shipped in by the bucket load, with the prices still relatively low there must be loads of ppl out there who realy dont know what gems they are,see them in the shop and just buy coz it looks cool,
considering the amount of wc uros shipped to the states there is relatively low breeding success, and with madagasgar being so small and the forsts dissapearing so quickly this is a finite amount of animals being constantly depleted, its only matter of time before these gene pools are no longer sustainable and with so many uros being locales we could see some species within the genus extinct in the wild in a matter of decades,

for the above reasons i would urge u to start with one of the more commonly available species and realy only get into uros if u intend to do your absolute upmost to keep them breeding and the bloodlines/locales clean, and also obviously try only to get cb animals because there is a much better survival rate not to mention your not fueling the wc trade,

will over at globalgeckos.com has written a great piece entitled "the plite of the uroplaus"
id urge anyone whos into their uros to give it a read,

hope this helps

I see these guys do not drink out of water bowls, only off plants in their habitat?
How often a day should they be misted?
Would a mist king system be the smartest way to go about it or is that overkill?

A misting at least once a day, at night when lights go out will be needed. It will really depend on the humidity in the habitat if more is warrented. I have an a/c on all the time I spray between 2 to 3 times a day. If you are serious about getting into Uroplatus I would recommend Guentheri. They are a little more forgiving and do not need as cool and humid conditions. These are not easiest geckos to keep. In most cases constant attention is needed.
