Default Swollen Eye, female henkeli

I had just received a juvenile female Henkels for free... An importer owed me a favor and I also told him that I had some success bringing them around after they were in bad shape...

She is fairly dehydrated with her good eye sunken in...but she seems to be in decent shape.

But, her one eye is completely swollen and opaque/white. Her calcium sacs seem to be swollen as well...

I was wondering if anyone had encountered a Uroplatus with an eye so swollen...

I really dont want to go to the vet, there are none around here that are worth going to...If I had to goto the vet for the meds, that would be different.
But, I would never feel comfortable bringing any of my Uros to the vet, well, atleast the ones around here.

Thanks

I think I would start with the hydration and go from there.

I understand how frustrating it can be when you do not have a reliable vet you can count on. I have been in the same situation in the past. Where I am in NH you are more likely to have a vet visit for a herp result in a fatality then a cure. It does not hurt though to call or drop an e-mail to a vet to see if they have experience with a similar case or particular species. I must have called 40 vets in my area before I found one that would work to my satisfaction and wasn’t more concerned with sheep and cattle. I still had to travel an hour away to get to his practice. I pulled a full grown 10 year old male double crested basilisk out of a travel carrier and the vet still stared in awe like I swore at him.

Do some leg work it will pay off.

I have no idea what it could be, but what i would do is:
Try to find a good herp-specialized clinic, doesnt matter where, and ask them for advice. If you are lucky they might be willing to "guide" your local vet abit, so that he might be capable of helping your gecko.

Hope you are able to get her back in shape.

I found her dead today...

I opened up her eye and it was completely filled with liquid/pus.

It seemed as if there were a few infections within her mouth as well.
Along her rows of teeth on her upper jaw had some 'cheesey' pus from infection...

She was about 6-7inches long and had her original tail. Also, she had well developed calcium sacs...I dobt that she was captive born because of her scarring, but I would find it hard to believe that her calcium sacs were that large from being in the wild...

I am almost positive that her calcium sacs were swollen due to the infection.

Also, I dont recall any adult WC Henkels having their original tail...
I was thinking that she still had her original tail because she wasnt quite sexually mature...

How common is it for WC adult Henkels to have their original tail?

Yeah, I only had it for one day...

Also, there was a mix up in the shipping so he had a 24 hour pit stop before reaching my place...

that probably contributed to the rapid death.

She had a real nice pattern too
