U. sikorae clutch frequency?
Hello all,
I now have two clutches of U. sikorae (assuming they are U. s. sikorae) incubating now. The first clutch is from 4/12 and the second is from today (4/29), only 17 days between clutches. This seems to be a very short time span. Is this typical? Both clutches are well formed, calcified, and appear to be fertile. I was just very surprised to find another set of eggs today. Hopefully I'll be able to bring these to term and hatch them out. If I do I'll be interesting in trading bloodlines as I love these guys.
Thanks,
Steve

Hey Steve,
I have not bred Sikorae myself, although I'm currently giving it a go over here, waiting for my female to drop me eggs .
But yeah I've heard of Sikorae having very short times in between clutches. As far as I understand, they can lay around 8 clutches a year.
Good luck,
-Armen

Hello,
17 days is actually very short!
Are you sure of the dates of egg laying.
his home is about 25 to 30 days.
You'd have to request Tristan, many females he could give you more details of experiments.

Yes, absolutely sure of the dates. I wrote them down as soon as I found the eggs. The first clutch could be off, but by no more than 24 hours. The 2nd clutch, I actually saw her lay them, so those are exact for sure! I was very very surprised to find eggs so soon after the first clutch.
Thanks,
Steve

it only remains to wait for the hatch!
He will observe the gestation of the next spawning.
maybe go temperatures are high and this has accelerated the pregnancy!

I had a female lay some 'Duds" about 2 weeks ago and she was digging around today in the dirt. I'm assuming i'll have eggs when I get home or tonight or tomorrow. This species is has very high calcium needs.

OK . . . I saw her lay her third clutch today. So it was 17 days between the first and second clutches and 22 days between the second and the third.

Mine have been laying every 28-32 days. Room temps are normally in the low 70s F.

I have the same deadlines as Salzy.
I think it must be the temperature which changes the temperature of gestation.
If somebody has another explanation??

Another clutch today. That is only 20 days again. I'm not sure what the deal is. I feed every other day, sometimes every third day. Temperatures range from 72F to 78F, the upper range only when it is very hot out. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve
