I agree with everything Bruce said.
With temperatures for geckos like these, you can never be
too safe.
If you are using UV lighting, remember that there is a huge amount of heat that comes off the starter unit. If you keep those close to the vivaria then that won't help the temperatures.
Generally the maximum my room ever gets is 22, sometimes 23 at a push. 24-25 is when it is unusually hot weather, and I think this has only happened to me once or twice. Needless to say - I almost soiled myself in panic.
Some key things to remember when it comes to Uroplatus temps are:
-
Know your room and house very well and what sort of temperatures to expect at any time of the year, and which rooms are the coolest.
- Use the lowest wattage bulbs you can get away with (where applicable)
- Keep several thermometers around the room (preferably with a min/max function) - I think you can also get ones with an alarm function if it reaches a specified temperature.
- Also keep thermometers in with your more delicate species like phantasticus.
- Keep the vivaria out of direct sun, and if possible, in a part of the house where the sun doesn't shine directly or only at the coolest times of day.
-
Buy an AC unit for emergencies! If it's really hot, then you can cool off in the Uroplatus room as well
If things get really desperate, then you can always do things like cover the windows with tin foil...
