Agreed. Any hotter than this and they are done. Some like sikorae and fimbriatus can tolerate it a little warmer but it should not be consistently warmer. Phantasticus should never ever be warmer than this. An AC unit is a must, no way around it. Also just because your room is around these temps does not mean the enclosure is. I feel an infrared temp gun is a must for keeping any advanced geckos. Even fluorescent bulbs will raise the temps in the summer time. I usually aim the gun high up in the enclosure if the temps read say 78 to 79, I keep it there. For phantasticus some recommend even lower, say no higher than 76 to 77 which is also a great idea.

During the winter months I have two fluorescent bulbs over each enclosure but when summer hits I reduce it to a single bulb to keep heat down.

I agree with everything Bruce said.

With temperatures for geckos like these, you can never be too safe.

If you are using UV lighting, remember that there is a huge amount of heat that comes off the starter unit. If you keep those close to the vivaria then that won't help the temperatures.

Generally the maximum my room ever gets is 22, sometimes 23 at a push. 24-25 is when it is unusually hot weather, and I think this has only happened to me once or twice. Needless to say - I almost soiled myself in panic.

Some key things to remember when it comes to Uroplatus temps are:
- Know your room and house very well and what sort of temperatures to expect at any time of the year, and which rooms are the coolest.
- Use the lowest wattage bulbs you can get away with (where applicable)
- Keep several thermometers around the room (preferably with a min/max function) - I think you can also get ones with an alarm function if it reaches a specified temperature.
- Also keep thermometers in with your more delicate species like phantasticus.
- Keep the vivaria out of direct sun, and if possible, in a part of the house where the sun doesn't shine directly or only at the coolest times of day.
- Buy an AC unit for emergencies! If it's really hot, then you can cool off in the Uroplatus room as well

If things get really desperate, then you can always do things like cover the windows with tin foil...

Hi,
I just make a quote of a mail that I sell to someone who ask me how I keep mine. hope this can help ( sorry, I put all temperatures in °C )

Quote:
I've the chance to be abble to keep them in perfect condition : I have an underground/cellar, (I don't really know if it's the word lol) so I keep them in my reptile room for 8 months per year, temperatures are between 18 and 26° the day and 16 to 20° at night and when the summer come, it's too hot in this room so I put them in the cellar : it make like their austral winter and températures are between 10 and 20 during the day, 4 to 14 at night, depending of the date.
During this period, females and males are kept alone, it give them a rest and females can make nice calcium reserve before the new breeding season, with this method, I've really good result because lot of breeder told me that 2 or 3 clutch/year was good for one female : my females lay between 5 and 8 clutch of 2 fertile eggs every year with this method and they seems to be very nice and healthy after the season. I hatch around 70 sikorae this year.
There is also another thing to have good breeding result with them : giving snails !
Keeping them between 16 and 18 the night and 20-24 during the day seems to be good to breed them with success too.

I breed Uroplatus phantasticus too, but this is really harder than sikorae, I hatch maybe 20 this season with 3 females but don't have some for sale at this time.

No, low temperatures are not a problem, my animals spend a few day last winter at 4° night and 6 or 7° the day, they just stop feeding, they still eat when it's 10°, sikorae especially, I never tried temp under 10° with phantasticus but I think it's not a problem. on the east coast in Madagascar, temperatures can drop to 0° sometimes. I think you can drop without problem at 10° at night, under this temperature, it could be dangerous if they are not really healthy.
I use UV light for all my uroplatus, 5.0 or 10.0 without problem, but they can hide easily from the light if they want.
I don't have link about snail, but you can look on the forum geckosunlimited about some Achatina species which seems to be good breeder, I use small Helix that I found in my garden, for me it's enought because I don't want to have to clean another tank for snails if I breed them lol.
