My friend just found a box of these aquarium LED moonlights, basically a little single blue light on a suction cup that you can either stick inside the tank on the glass or rest on top of the screen. I was thinking that might be fun so I can watch mine hunt, but I wanted to know if anyone had any experience using something like this and if the extra blue light bothered them at night. Thanks

In my opinion, all Uroplatus should have a "moonlight" to thrive. They may be nocturnal but can't see in complete darkness either. I've installed LED rope lighting around the entire gecko room to provide them with just enough light to get around and hunt at night.

We do leave the night lights off during the new moon every month. I've found they like to get down to "business" when it's really dark once a month. My theory is it's safer than locking up for hours on end during a full moon!

Awesome, thank you for the advice! I've been leaving the door part way open so that they get some ambient light from the rest of the house (my plant lights are on a reverse cycle, so the other rooms are rather bright at night). I just wasn't sure about having a light directly over them at night. I'll have my bf bring a couple home with him so we can try them out.

I have tried them & red lighting, both w/ good results, for me & gex

total darkness during brightest moon cycles are encouraged by me as well - enjoy the viewings! - Jason

I have two moonlight LED's on top of a 5' tall tank, not only does the tank look great at night, but it gives them a more complete light cycle (not perfect) and enough light to see at night for hunting.
