Default How hatchlings fit inside those tiny eggs...

I had an aff. ebenaui that tried to hatch last year but died in the process. I am not sure why, but I have put it down to the incubation tempertures I was using last year.

Anyway, I cut the egg open after being sure that the baby had died. I found it quite interesting how she was wrapped up in a ball. I had always wondered exactly how they fit into such a small egg!

I took a photo and thought it might be interesting to share...

interesting...it looks like it grew into the egg for atleast a week or two after it should have hatched...
With my henkeli and Phelsuma...they tend to not use up all of the space before hatching...I have noticed up to 20% of the space not being occupied during hatch time. These geckos are efficient with their space though.

That's such an incredible photo! Sad yet, extraordinary at the same time.

I remember only having 1 phantasticus that developed and failed to hatch...and once the mold smell came I remember cracking it to find it in a very similar position. I still have it in a jar somewhere...
