I've never kept uroplatus, but could the be abrasions scabbing over? If not that, perhaps some sort of fungus?

I've thought he was in shed for a couple of days, but I just checked him and he's just getting going around his head. I'll update after he finishes.

They always form around the spine and other boney protrusions. My guess is it spent entirely too much time in an improperly sized deli cup.

He shed last night. Most of the spots are gone now, except for the big ones on his pelvis and some faint ones on his back. Here's my best guess of what they are based off my observations-
I think he has been scraped up a good bit a few sheds prior to now, and the thicker black spots are the abrasions that have been in the process of healing, yet he continues to shed so they become kindof a stuck shed/abrasions thingy. The main indicator for this idea is that after last nights shed, a couple of the spots had a small string of shed still hanging on it, making me think that his body is trying to sluff of the skin UNDER the spots but can't because they are stuck.
I've got some hydrating vaseline/lotion on the big spots at his pelvis to see if I can soften them up and get them off. If that works, then I'll assume my conclusion is right and he'll be on his way to recovery.
I don't see how this could happen in the wild over such a large portion of his body, so my theory is that he must have been kept for a while in captivity before being shipped from Madagascar, and that in bad conditions. Maybe a screen cage that's too small or even worse. I just don't know how else he could get those big abrasions on his hips and down his back without a pretty confining environment.
AND I can't imagine nobody else has ever seen this before, so I'd love to hear if any of you have.
Thanks,
Kevin

Yeah, we're thinking the same thing then. I was TOLD he was two weeks into the country. Assuming that's true, it only leaves the ride over here and the wait to be shipped in Madagascar as a culprit...

Larger Uros usually always have those scars when they come in.
They are put in containers the same size as the smaller uros...they are usually real thin to...during the shipping process.
But relax, it is only semi permanent...it will go away shortly and heal completely without a trace of the scars.
