Default Misting Systems:

So my collection is becoming quite sizeable, and by spring 2012 I plan on having around 30+ Uroplatus breeding for me. Needless to say, its going to be quite time consuming to spray each of the cages multiple times a day in order to properly stimulate breeding.

My question is, what misting systems do you guys use?
Have any of you tried this one? Heard any reviews on it?

Please let me know.
Thanks,
-Armen

How many tanks are you planning to run on the system. Do you expect you'll get more tanks?

I have both the MistKing and the Big Apple Misting systems, and I absolutely prefer the MistKing.

I've had a Big Apple system connected to 12 cages for 5 months, and I'm not particularly impressed. It's very noisy, the timer can only be set to minutes (not seconds), and the connections between the nozzles are zip-ties, which don't work well even if you add more than the 2/connection they supply. Most of these connections leak a little, some leak a lot and I had to add pipe clamps (I contacted Big Apple about the leaking the day after setting up, and they told me to get the clamps - I can't say I was impressed with that response). I had one connection come apart and shoot off - luckily I was around to shut it down. It does come with a bucket/reservoir, which is nice. In short, this one is noisy, requires a lot of maintenance, and looks (and functions) like something I cobbled together myself.

I got a MistKing a couple months ago for just one cage when they offered the lower price model (both cost me about the same). Love this one. It's relatively quiet (though if you don't secure the tubing it'll get noisy), the connections snap right in, so no clamps or zip-ties, and no leaks. It comes with a timer that you can set for as little as a second, which I think is great. It doesn't come with a bucket/reservoir, though. It also has some kind of anti-microbial treatment, which will cause the water to come out milky at first, and probably isn't good for your plants or lizards (if that was in the instructions, I missed it - you should let it run for awhile, from pump to nozzle, when you first set up). Overall, it's a high quality, professional system for the same price as the Big Apple.

Hope that helps,
Bryan

Armen, you should PM Marty. He owns Mist King company and can probably give you a lot of answers to your questions about misting systems.

Bryan, there's no microbial treatment. Initially the pump is full of air, so when the water goes in for the first time it gets agitated and aerated, probably why it looked whitish. Nevertheless, it's always recommended that you just run water through the pump for a few minutes to flush anything that may be left over from the manufacturing process. Thanks for the review. I'd also add that the pump in big apple herp cannot run dry, cannot run for more than 2 min or it will overheat. If a timer fails it will run and heat up and melt the tubing as it doesn't have thermal cut off. Our pumps, can run dry or wet for as long as you want and they do that silently

Im going to be getting the ultimate mist king set up very soon for all my uroplatus cages and my Chameleons. If you're in the market for misting systems, I personally think Mist king is one of the best systems out by reading reviews and seeing it perform.

Right now it will be misting about 10-15 cages. However, eventually it will be misting around 30+ enclosures. Ill probably need more than one system.
Hope this helps.

I have one of these- Pro-Products | ProMist

I love it. I've never had a Mist King, so I can't compare. Sorry I can't be more help, but at least I can share the link so you can inform yourself.

Sounds like that's a good one as well.
How many tanks do you have it running on? Was it easy to assemble?
Thanks,
-Armen
