Default flaking sikorae egg what do you think?

checked on one of my eggs this morning and noticed it was flaking it wasn't cracked through all the way. I was wondering if any one else has had this happen to them and if it could be an issue? The egg is def due to hatch soon.

Leave it alone. If it doesn't hatch, continue to leave it alone.

Do you have any pictures?

Are you talking about its clutchmate?

Have you attempted to smell it? If it's a clutchmate, it seems as though it could likely be that the egg went bad and the decay is causing the egg to expand, resulting in the flaking you see. If it smells noticeably bad, I think it's bad news. But there is a chance that it's still going.

Looks like a bad egg, similar thing happened to one of my Pietschmanni eggs.

But still, leave it alone. There's never really a reason to cut open or disturb an egg. My rule is, once the egg collapses/has a horrible smell, I usually throw it.

Also, is that your incubation container? It doesn't look like there's a substrate under the bottle cap. Could be major humidity issues.

Matt, you'll know if it goes bad. When you pop the lid you'll smell it and it go visibly funky. I had two that I cracked this year on accident and they grew white hair and smelled aweful.

On the ones you cracked, did you try and patch them? I just had an egg hatch two days ago that I accidentally dented and cracked while putting it in the tupperware container. I patched it with a single layer of tissue paper and lots of superglue. The baby looks to have come out fine.

Nah, I hadn't heard of that kind of thing back then. One of them cracked on the bottom while incubating so I did notice it until it was too late anyway.

I frantically looked it up on the internet after I cracked mine, I had heard of patching them before but didn't know how. Unfortunately everything online and the people I talked to told me to use elmers white glue, and I didn't think far enough ahead to remember what happens to white glue when it's in a humid environment. The next day I got to carefully scrape off about three layers of gooey white glue while trying not to further damage the egg. I cleaned it all up, did a single layer of the tissue paper to stabilize the crack, covered it all with super glue, let it dry, then another layer of super glue. Seems to have worked well
