I know this forum is solely for geckos, but I had more of a lizard question. If I donít think I have the ability to care for a bearded dragon, is it ok to get something much easier like a leopard gecko? Would that be accepted or is that frowned upon? I just wouldnít want to get something harder to care for and then not provide for it. My second question is more leopard gecko related. Are leopard geckos an animal that can kind of sit with you and be more of a companion than something that will squirm and try to get away? Thanks for the help!!!!!(I know the husbandry for both of them btw)

I think whatever reptile you get, if it's something you want and enjoy, is a good pet to have. Leopard geckos are certainly less expensive and easier to care for than bearded dragons (I have both). If having a reptile that will sit with you is important, here are some things to consider:
    a. a young juvenile leopard gecko will spend most of its time hiding, though it may become more settled and easy to handle as it matures
    b. I have found that some leopard geckos are skittish and not so tolerant of handling (I was a breeder for 13 years).
    c. on the other hand, in his book "The Leopard Gecko Advisor" (available on Amazon.com), Ray Roehner feels strongly that leopard geckos can be trained
    d. I would recommend buying an older juvenile or adult leopard gecko at a reptile show or with a reputable breeder in person, where you can handle the prospective gecko and see how it does with you

Thanks for the quick response! I was leaning towards a Leo anyway!
