I can't imagine you'd have a problem as long as you wash your hands after handling and don't have it near the baby. Saying that, I'm relatively new to all of this so I could be wrong.

I'm no expert, but I agree with what was said. Just be sure to wash your hands before and after handling anything gecko! I wonder if similar statements are made about having raw chicken with a toddler...

From what I've read, the salmonella scare came from a couple decades ago when it was popular to buy children baby turtles, and some of them were left unsupervised and put the turtles in their mouths. And voila! Salmonella! As long as things are kept supervised, I don't think there should be an issue. I know of people who have young children (including babies) and leos.

<-- has a 3 year old toddler. a turtle and 2 leos, an a snake.
she was taught from an early age not to touch any reptile enclosures, they are also out of her reach, we wash our hands obsessively before and after handling. she pets our leos gently with 2 fingers as well and washes her hands afterwards.2 Albino Leopard Geckos-(Tremper)

the chicken reference was a good one.
if you trust your soap and hot water to get Salmonella off surfaces and your hands when cooking, you should trust it to clean your hands after handling the gecko. however, all the same rules apply - handwashing, etc.
if you have a normal immune system the risk is minimal to non-existent for herps that are not aquatic turtles. it would have to be a pathogenic strain of bacteria and you'd have to get a dose sufficient to establish infection. these are both pretty big hurdles. by the time your kid is a toddler they have a pretty well-established immune system (I ate dirt when I was little, and you probably did too, lol).
just don't let your kid lick any geckos or raw chicken and you'll be fine

I have a 9 month old baby girl, 12 geckos and a tarantula (not to mention over 15 dogs that I am fostering right now) and I have never had a problem, I wash my hands after touching any animal and I do not let the baby crawl in the areas where I keep the animals, gecko should be kept in their enclosures and the baby shouldn´t get to them, I try not to be over protective with my baby so she doesn´t get too delicate (I mean, I let her strenght her immune system), I think if your baby is brestfed (not brestfeeding your baby is way more detrimental for her than having animals of any sort) and has a normal immune system you shouldn´t worry about it
