i have had my leopard gecko for about 7 years now and its a male.about a week ago when i was feeding him i noticed that his behvior changed.he went from being very slow and relaxed to extremely fast and jumpy. when i was feeding him i opened the lid of his tank and he jumped and got scared, this never happened before and when i tried picking him up he almost bit me!! my gecko never tried to bite me in the 7 years i had him. just today i went over to his tank and he got so scared he ran as fast as he could into his rock, i didnt even know my little guy could go this fast!!!! he does not have a mate and he lived alone his whole life.
i dont know why he is been acting so strange. i hope one of you can help me out and tell me why he is being like this.

    Hi,

There are so many possibilities as to why he is suddenly jumpy. If it's a one time deal I wouldn't worry. Something as simple as a new scent can trigger the behavior. Make sure everything is functioning properly in the enclosure, heating (not overheating) ect. Check him over for signs of injury; pain or illness can cause irritability.

I noticed when I raised the heat in their enclosures, they reacted the same.

I think they are a naturally fierce and feisty creature. Most of the time, Docile and calm leo's are actually either cold, or scared, or perhaps temporarily lazy. Just my observations.

    1 Red Eared Slider Turtle
    1 Hermit Crab
2 cats- Tonkinese / Orange Tabby

Hope he hasn't been underheated this whole time.

    Its very possible.
Nick: what are the current temps ? and were there any sort of changes to his habitat at all? The odd behavior actually sounds like normal leo behavior. They are quick, shy, and attack predators to defend themselves

I learned from another member to distract them by wiggling a paper towel in front of their face and then gently get them onto my hand.

p.s. The bites dont hurt... that bad LOL
