Exclamation Leopard Gecko Mouth/Jaw Injury - Please Help!

My vet suggested that I syringe feed my gecko because of appetite and diarrhea issues. While I was doing it, he bit down hard on the end of the plastic syringe and I heard a slight cracking/crunching sound. After looking at his mouth, I was alarmed to see that the right side of his mouth no longer looked normal. I'm sure he lost some teeth in the process, but what worries me is that his gums were red and something appeared to be missing or disfigured on the right side of his mouth. As you can see in the attached photos, it looks like part of the lining in his mouth near his gums broke off. When his mouth is closed (in the second photo), there's a slight gap on that side between the upper and lower lips. My questions are:

    • What in the world happened here?
    • Will this heal back to normal?
    • Besides having a clean enclosure and keeping his mouth clean, is there anything I can do to prevent infection until I can see a vet on Monday?

I'm worried for the poor guy. Thanks for reading!

I think you should take him back to the vet and get suggestions from them.

I was planning on doing that, but he unfortunately didn't make it.

I'm so sorry to hear this. If he was doing poorly before the "crunch" on the syringe, it could very likely have been whatever was wrong with him prior that caused his death. Thank you for trying to help him.
