Default New Petco dropped tails rescues- one with diarrhea

This last Saturday, I picked up 3 hatchlings with dropped tails from my nearby Petco. Today, one of them has very loose, smelly poop. They seem otherwise healthy, and are eating a drinking well, and are all in separate quarantine containers since I picked them up. I am worried that the other two might also develop diarrhea since they were housed together before I bought them. How would you advise treating the one with loose stool, and is there anything else I can do to prevent the others from developing problems?

    Hi ~

Did you get these 3 leos just 2 days ago? Your leo might have parasites that need vet treatment. Whatever is bothering this leo the other 2 may have already caught. They may ALL need medicine. PetCo has something like a 14 day return policy for unhealthy leos.

It's time to take a fecal sample to a vet. Maybe PetCo has in-house vets who would do fecals. Please contact them first. Otherwise vets often have a policy, for the good of your leo, that they need to schedule a complete physical in order to perform a fecal.

Leave out a large section of clean plastic where your leo usually poops. Then follow the directions in this link. Sometimes a vet can swab a leo's vent for that sample.

In the meantime practice stringent quarantine procedures. Use vinyl gloves and frequent handwashing. Feed that leo last. Use disposable cage furniture (plastic hides and all) just in case the furniture needs to be tossed.
