Hello, I am new to reptiles and got my first leopard gecko last week. He is a snow morph and the old owner had him in a pretty lousy set up. (Only feeding crickets or dried meal worms no powders) he didnt have any real heat source either. He is supposedly 2.5 years old but he is only 5.5 inches. The old owner told me he was a boy but I am unsure image000000(1).jpgScreenshot_20200908-170600_Instagram.jpg

It doesn't look like a male from what I can see of the picture. It's actually a super snow which means that it has 2 copies of the snow gene. It's a very handsome gecko. Yes, it's smaller than most geckos its age. Some of the super snows at some point were on the small side. I produced a super snow many years ago when I was breeding that ate well but was always small. Just feed it well and enjoy it. It's a lovely gecko even if it never gets any bigger.

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited! Geckos Unlimited has many of your leo needs answered! Just click the link at the bottom of my signature to discover a very comprehensive care sheet with currently 165 links and a unlinked section too.

What you're looking for to determine a male leopard gecko are 2 hemipenal bulges right below the vent like this photo shows.

Sexing Leopard Geckos -- A leopard gecko's gender can be confirmed when that leo is over 5 inches in total length. That may happen when the leo is near 6 months old. Males can be distinguished from females by a distinct /\-shaped row of pores above the vent and by two hemipenal bulges below the vent. To see their vents, potential male pores, and hemipenal bulges gently press their bodies up against the glass. They'll squirm if you try to turn them over.
