Impacted Leopard Gecko??
LOG IN TO CLOSE THIS AD
I've had my female leopard gecko (Kiku) since July 2020. I recently noticed that she hasn't been eating/interested in eating for about 4-5 days now. She is in a bioactive terrarium 20 gal with the Bio Dude's Terra-Sahara as substrate. Just today, I took her out to examine her and noticed this black/blueish dot on her belly. She hasn't pooped for a few days now and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to help her/give her immediate relief. Please let me know - any and all advice is appreciated!

It's probably also important to note that I've only ever tong fed her. She gets fed regular mealworms as well as red runner roaches. She gets a calcium supplement with D3 dusted onto her food 2-3 times a week as well as a multivitamin dusted on to her food 2-3 times a week.

I don't really know how old she is. She was definitely a baby when I got her. She isn't full size now, so I'd guess about 10 months old or so.
For supplements, I use reptivite with D3 and flukers reptacalcium with D3 (phosphorus free).
Any idea on what that little spot is?

I'm not sure what that little blue spot is. Please share a full body picture of Kiku on her belly on the ground or in her enclosure.
Try dabbing Kiku's nose with a couple drops of vegetable, olive, or mineral oil. Then gently massage her belly in a throat-to-vent manner. That may help her poop. She may be "backed up" with excessive supplements.
What are you feeding Kiku's mealworms and red runners?
Around age 7-8 months leos eat about 3 times weekly instead of daily. Just follow the Mon-Wed-Fri + maybe Sat sections of Schedule 124.
Please cut way back on Kiku's supplements! Using a D3 supplement at JUST 1 feeding per week is highly recommended and quite adequate. Anything else is overkill and could be harmful. For the other light dustings @ 2 feedings per week, please purchase some Zoo Med's Repti Calcium withOUT D3 or NOW human-grade pure calcium carbonate. Plain calcium carbonate never expires.

Vitamin D3 is fat soluble. That means a single dose of D3 sticks around in a leo's body for about 1 week and helps metabolize plain calcium during that week.

Below are some full body pictures of her. I did give her a warm soak for about 15 minutes, gave her a little belly massage, and dabbed a little olive oil on her snout - she licked it off. Once I put her back into her enclosure I did notice some poop and urates that look to be about a day or so old.
I fed her run runners some apples and carrots. I feed the mealworms kale, red peppers, and carrots. The mealworms are housed in a cricket pen with a nice layer fine bedding. The red runners are housed in a plastic container with some egg shell cartons.
I will be sure to follow the schedule - thank you so much. I had no idea I was overdoing the supplements/feeding!

Kiku's maturing nicely. Her body proportions are good for her age.

Perfect poop timing! Were her recent urates white?
What type bedding are her mealworms on?
Here's a good dry diet to feed all Kiku's feeders including her mealworms. Also use Professional Reptiles' Pro Gutload as a mealworm bedding instead of oats, wheat germ, or wheat bran.
Aliza (GU's acpart) uses this already ground Professional Reptiles' Pro Gutload (1-775-359-1085) for her mealworm/superworm bedding as well as for her insect and worm food.

In addition to a balanced dry diet to cover the basics, offer your geckos' feeders some veggies and fruits from these lists.
Gutload Ingredients for Bugs & Worms . . . . . . thanks to Olimpia -- August 2013
"A commercial gut loading food like Bug Burger or Superload (both by Repashy), Cricket Crack, Dinofuel, etc. is going to make your life easier AND provide a nutritious diet to your crickets at the same time. Avoid Fluker's gutloads, as they are super feeble in their formulas.
"If you opt for making your own gutload at home, here's a list of great ingredients to use:
BEST: mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion flowers & leaves, collard greens, escarole lettuce, papaya, watercress, and alfalfa.
GOOD: sweet potato, carrots, mango, butternut squash, kale, apples, beet greens, blackberries, bok choy, and green beans.
DRY FOOD: bee pollen, organic non-salted sunflower seeds, spirulina, dried seaweed, flax seed, and organic non-salted almonds.
AVOID AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE: potatoes, cabbage, iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, corn, grains, beans, oats, bread, cereal, meat, eggs, dog food, cat food, fish food, canned or dead insects, vertebrates."Last edited by Elizabeth Freer; 03-07-2021 at 07:55 AM.
