    Default Gecko getting EXTREMELY defensive.

So this has happened with my gecko a couple times before and always when my wife has tried to handle her. My gecko is normally very laid back and doesn't mind being handled most of the time by me and my wife. I handle her mostly, clean her poop and feed her but occasionally my wife will too. Sometimes when I'm holding her I'll pass her over to to my wife with no problem. Occasionally my wife will also take her out of the tank without issue by herself.

But a few times when my wife has attempted to take her out just by offering her hand my gecko will approach her hand then suddenly become EXTREMELY defensive. She will freeze. Her tail will start slowly waving and then she will begin freaking out! Darting around and smashing into stuff if my wife gets her hand any closer. She stays freaked out for days after an episode like this. I personally cant even handle her. She just slowly moves around the tank with her tail in the air in a defensive posture.

We thought maybe it was a perfume or lotion but that doesn't seem to be the case. We thought maybe her finger nails freaked her out. We're not really sure.

After about a week or so she will return to normal. This has happened twice before and most recently again a third time last night. My wife went to pick her up and all hell broke lose. Now she is in her hide. She has been out once and was still freaked out tail in the air.

    Why is this happening?

I reaserched and she may just not want to be held it may be she is just frightened or she might just see your wife is seen as a predator. do not worry, she may get used to your wife.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I don't think that's it. She is already used to my wife. She has handled the gecko many times without problems. And our gecko usually has no problem being handled. This just happens randomly and it's only happened 2 other times in the 1.5 years we've had her.
