    Default Handling Help!!!

My gecko hates being held, but he comes onto my hand a lot so I move to my bed and let him sit there hoping to get more used to me. Tonight, I accidentally made a sudden move, which caused him to freak out a bit and I had to rush him back to his tank as he tried to jump off my hand. He hit the side of his tank from jumping, and I heard a thud, and landed about a foot and a half or so into my desk. I managed to get him inside, and he went into his hide. He wasnít walking weird or bleeding so I think he avoided any injury, but this can not happen again. How can I finally get him used to me without worrying about dropping or injuring him every time I try to handle him! I was so worried I almost screamed, and as Iím writing this I feel awful for now scared he was and how hurt he could have gotten. I still am not sure he didnít sustain anything because itís been just a few minutes

They are very hardy and they don't really hold on to trauma like that for very long (as far as I know). Some leopard geckos never like being held. You could try handling him either in a room where there's nowhere to get lost in (like a small bathroom), or over a cardboard box so if he freaks out he can be in there, or on the couch. If he freaks out, try cupping your hands over him to make a little cave for him until he relaxes. Just hold him a few minutes each day and hopefully he'll get used to you.
