Default New Leopard Gecko: Best time to clean the terrarium?

    Hello everyone,

It has officially been a week as of today that I moved my new leopard gecko into his environment. I am using a reptile safe carpet and it has gotten a bit dirty from calcium and feces (which I have already cleaned up). My question is should I wait to clean the carpet since she is not fully accustomed to handling yet or do you recommend any good ways of cleaning without disrupting her too much? Any information would be helpful, thanks!

I recommend getting a second carpet the same size. Whenever you're ready, switch carpets (it will be a minimum of disruption), clean the original one and have it ready to switch the next time things look dirty.

I put a little square of cut yoga mat in my geckos "poo spot", that way I can just pick that up and replace it with a fresh piece. That way I don't have to move any of his stuff to change it. Its a 6x6 inch square. Works really well. As for the calcium...I have a huge pie dish for feeding since mine likes to chase his prey. This is also lined with a yoga mat and I rinse it off twice a week or so to remove the residual powders.

I've noticed that mine really does not like things moved around - when anything changes he goes off feed for that day and sometimes the next.

I also use the yoga mat so that his tiny claws don't stick to it and it is fairly inert

I use a 4" square bathroom tile (the kind they put on walls in bathrooms) in the poop corner which I can clean off and just put back afterwards.
