    Hi everyone,
I am planning to get my first Leopard and I have been reading threads for a few hours. I have a 75g tank for my future leopard and I want to make it the ideal home. I need some suggestions on how to accomplish this. As of right now, I have zero equipment and no immediate plans to buy the reptile. I like the idea of tile for substrate for the cleaning purposes as well as the look of it. What do I need to heat things? I saw some heat cable/wire that I like, will this work with the glass bottom and tile? I am also seeing a lot of acronyms UTH, D3, and etc. Is there a list of these on the forum that I can refer to? Also is there a place for pictures of various setups that I can look at?

For background on me, I am a science teacher and am coming from the saltwater tank world. I am willing to spend the money for quality stuff.

    Thanks Everyone,

you will either need heat tape or a heat mat as your heating source, make sure it is on the bottom.

for your UTH and D3 question, UTH means under tank heater. and D3 stands for, well, vitamin D3.

for pics than I would look at the Husbandry, Housing, and Heating thread, the General Info, Intro, and Pics thread, the Naturalistic Vivarium thread, and the Do-It-Yourself thread, those would probably be the ones with pics of tanks.

Are there any brands I should watchout for? If this were your dream enclosure, What would you buy...using the 75g tank that is.

    Thanks guys,

I have a 20 gallon tank so I don't have experience with a 75, if I was going to go for a certain brand I would go for a Zoo Med, flukers or Exo Terra, Zoo Med Reptitherm heater has 3 1/2 stars, Flukers has a premium hat mat with 5 stars but two reviews, and for Exo Terra I would go with the PT2018. as I said I have no experience with a 75 gall, these are just the sizes of heat mats of brands that I know are pretty reliable, I would definitely and without a doubt keep on searching for any others. you do need a thermostat. otherwise you risk overheating and underheating, wich means your gecko could easily get burnt and it might not have enough heat for digesting, and also it is very hard to keep your tank at a constant temp as you have to keep a close eye on it.
I hope that someone else with a bit more exp would join in but for now good luck.

Ultratherm is highly recommended here as an excellent heat mat.
