Exclamation Leopard gecko won't come out of his hide

Hello. I've had my leopard gecko for a few months now, I recently upgraded his tank from a 10 gallon to a 20 gallon and he never comes out of his hides. He will switch between the hot hide and the cool hide when it switches from night to day but he never stays out. He'll come out when I feed him at night but then goes straight back to the hide after. I've tried picking him up but he freaks out and I don't want to scare him anymore. My night light comes on around 7 hoping to see him come out when it turns dark in my room but I stay up for hours past 7 and I never ever see him come out so I'm getting worried. Its also getting time to clean his mat but I don't want to loose his trust and have to remove his hide from him. I have no idea what to do or know why he won't come out of his hides. HELP.

That sounds perfectly normal! If heís regulating his temperature and eating, there really isnít anything to be worried about. Especially since you just changed the cage. Heís probably just still nervous about the new area. They... arenít the smartest of creatures. One of mine stays hidden for a day every time I change his reptile carpet. And itís changed every other week so itís not an uncommon occurrence.

The night light might be stressing him out too- I know mine became a lot more active at night once I learned that they could see the red light and decided to turn it off. I know itís fun to watch your geckos at night, but unfortunately, they can see all kinds of light.
