    Default Gecko Castle Thoughts

First want to say that I am just sharing my thoughts, but any input is welcome

Since my little man is not so little anymore, and I will be coming into some extra cash this summer I decided to go ahead and upgrade Wyrm before his 1st birthday. I am going with an animal plastics cage - but still trying to decide on size.

    *Trying to choose between a 48L x 24W x 15H and a 60L x 30W x 18H
    - either way I will be including a "basking shelf" that is 12 inches wide and runs the length of the cage just to add more usable space (not to be used as a basking area per say)

*Also trying to decide between 11" flexwatt heat tape and a regular Zoomed UTH for belly heat. I have a zoomed one now and it works great, but I have no experience with heat tape. His substrate is slate tile. Is there any particular strong feelings on exoterra vs zoomed vs other UTH's or are they all about similar? Safety and longevity-wise as they will be harder to change out / see under a bigger cage

*Should I give him a dig box of some kind of substrate for enrichment since I'll have more room. I think he might enjoy it, but impaction is always on my mind. His humid hide has a shallow layer of sphagnum moss that he burrows under sometimes but can't really 'dig'

    Question

Is Wyrm ready to go naturalistic? You could easily try it without a CUC (clean up crew). There's much advice out there.

Ultratherm heat mats (made in Scotland) come in 11 different sizes. They are tops!! A gecko buddy has never had an Ultratherm fail on her.

Here's a recent thread complete with great photos.
