Default Temperature Thermostat for heating mat position

I have a exo Terra heating mat and I use the Jumpstart Thermostat controller along with it. I am also using the Sandmat from Exo Terra. I positioned the thermostat probe under the sandmat in the center of the heat pad and set it to 92 degrees F. Wouldn't it give incorrect temperature readings if the probe is under the mat? Wouldn't the actual heat readings from the top of the mat be a lot cooler than the readings of the probe under the mat?? I don't have a laser temperature gun so I'm not sure if my gecko is getting the appropiate temperature settings.

Why don't you put the thermostat probe on top of the mat where the leopard gecko is actually sitting and go from there?

Just changed it 😂 I was thinking if it was sitting on top of the mat, the ambient temperature might give off wrong readings

Temp probe definitely needs to be right on top where the gecko will be to get an accurate reading. See the care guide in my signature.
