    Question Scentsy..?

Iím not too sure where to post this (so sorry if I post it in the wrong place). I have two adult Leoís and a colony of Dubia roaches in my room and I was wondering if having a non-smoke emitting wax melter (it uses a lightbulb to melt said wax) would negatively affect them. I have ventilation and a fan running constantly in my room, I also plan to put an air purifier in there too. It wouldnít be running constantly either.

I personally don't trust anything with strong scent around my reptiles...I have snakes and the fact that they can smell the difference in direction of something based on a single atom of scent makes me feel like it would be overpowering. As far as actual harm...there is little research - I know candles have been suspected in bird deaths from respiratory irritation - basically the thought is that their respiratory system gets irritated and inflamed and they can breathe well. Even without smoke from a wick the oils from the wax are still being aerosolized and will be breathed in by your pets.
So it is up to you to try, but I would make sure to watch extremely closely for any ill-effects if you choose to risk it.

Yeah I thought so, I just always like to gather opinions beforehand. I probably won’t use it.. I haven’t found any studies on if it has adverse effects so I thought to ask here. I have definitely heard that they shouldn’t be used around birds because basically anything with oils can affect their respiratory system. Plus considering I plan to expand the species I keep I wouldn’t want to risk it.

I don't use scented items in my reptile room either. If I do burn candles, I close the door to that room and leave it closed until the candles are long out. I just don't like to risk it.
