Poop in hides/ sleeping in poop

I’ve done everything to stop this issue...
-first I washed the hot hide and slate with reptiwipe out and moved it in a different place; placed the poop where o wanted him to go ( i always wash the slate with hot soapy water and a tiny bit of reptiwipe in the spot that had the poop).
So he ended up pooping the hot hide again.
-I took the hot hide out completely and replaced it with a new hide and moved his poop again. But this time I placed it in a designated poop hide.
He use the Poop Hide once and I was happy but the next day he pooped in the NEW hot hide.
-so then I moved the poop hide to the place where the new hot hide was, took OUT the new hot hide and placed the old hot hide back in. I put the poop in the poop hide.
-the next day he went to the old hot hide and pooped in it and then slept in the poop hide where I placed all his poop!!!
-today I took the hot hide out completely so the only hide in that area is his poop hide and his humid/hot hide. I put paper towel where the hot hide was and it n the poop hide.
I don’t get why he MUST poop in his hides and he doesn’t care if he sleeps on top of his poop!
This is my third gecko ever and the other two were never this untidy/disgusting.
I would give up and leave him alone to poop and sleep in his poop if he wants but I worry he is going to end up getting sick.
The hot hide that he pooped in I can’t even get the smell out of. I use antibacterial soap and water, reptiwipe out, diluted vinegar and even a dab of bleach. NOTHING gets the smell out.
I have it soaking in soapy water right now and probably will leave it over night.
How can I stop him from pooping in his hides or at least in the hide where he sleeps?

You must be really pooped after all this! It does remind me of my toddlers. My only advice is to let him sleep where he wants, clean up every day and use a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide. I have 2 geckos that poop in their warm hides but they don't sleep in them.

Update: Sobek is now “potty trained”.
I had to completely remove the hide he loved to poop in.
Everyday I placed his poop where I wanted him to go and cleaned the other areas.
It took two-three weeks but he finally got it.
Reptiles are very smart. I think it just take consistency and patience.Post Thanks / Like - 0 Thanks, 1 LikesElizabeth Freer liked this post
