Rescue 2 leopards

Obviously I need a bigger tank, better substrate, under tank heater and moist box. Should i separate them as soon as possible, or try and sex them and only separate if two males? Hopefully they don’t have missing toes or mbd. Is there anything I should be looking for or concerned about? My daughter likes the idea of raising one from the start, but it just seems better to give these guys a better home. I’m reading all about leopards, but want to get ideas and your options regarding this scenario.
Thanks

Some people recommend keeping leopard geckos individually only. I have kept mine in small groups for more than a decade and have only rarely had a problem (I have extra enclosures in case there is a problem). Two females would be ideal since, as you know, males will fight even if they've been together awhile and a male and a female will breed which is a drain on the female's resources. A 20 gallon long enclosure is best for 1-2 geckos. How about if you get one of those and based on what you find when you sex them, if necessary, you could keep one temporarily in the 10 gallon and put the other in the 20 gallon with plans to upgrade the 10 gallon eventually. If you have the resources to get stacking front-opening cages (check out Exo-terra) it will take up even less space.

Just in case:
(4) Sexing Leopard Geckos -- A leopard gecko's gender can be confirmed when that leo is over 5 inches in total length. That may happen when the leo is near 6 months old. Males can be distinguished from females by a distinct /\-shaped row of pores above the vent and by two hemipenal bulges below the vent. To see their vents, potential male pores, and hemipenal bulges gently press their bodies up against the glass. They'll squirm if you try to turn them over.
