Unhappy New albino leopard gecko setup

LOG IN TO CLOSE THIS AD

    Hi,
Just wanted see if I can make any improvements that could make my new leopard gecko as healthy as can be. I wanted upload two photos but isn't working currently. But I went with a reptitherm UTH an it's on a reptitemp digital thermostat. Don't really like the always on blue backlight but works. Added a hide in the center with a moist paper towel for humid hide. Heat mat is mounted right side towards the back. So went with a diamond view with the 3 hides. It's a 18"18"18"exo terra tank. Found one on Craigslist for 50 bucks. Do you need a calcium dish? An how is that made if so.
Using slate an easy liner for a floor bottom. Using tile over the heat mat. Not sure if I should add uvb reptisun 5.0 because it's a albino. Plus over head lamp for viewing because of this also. Been feeding crickets an nutrigrubs no powder on nutri grubs. Just calcium without D3 today an yesterday. Got this little guy yesterday.

    Lightbulb

This supplement schedule really works! Please believe me.

To be tweaked, if necessary, when I find out how old your leo is.

Supplement your leo @ 3 feedings per week.
Mondays ~ Vitamin D3 is fat soluble. That means a single dose of only calcium + D3 lightly dusted on ALL bugs or worms on Mondays sticks around in a leo's body for about 1 week.

Wednesdays ~ The next dose, (plain calcium) lightly dusted on ALL the bugs or worms on Wednesdays, is metabolized by the D3 dose from Monday.

Fridays ~ Then Zoo Med's Reptivite multivitamins withOUT D3 lightly dusted on ALL the bugs or worms on Fridays.

I had to remove text from my last private message. PMs have a specific length. Messages on threads NEVER get maxed out.

Please listen & do exactly as I suggest. You'll get nowhere taking a little info here & a little info there.
    1. Your warm end/cool end temps are just about where you need them. The ground heat is where it needs to be! IF he's pooping he's eating!
    2. Please totally forget UVB for your 18 inch box tank! IF you do as I recommend, your leo will thrive! Like I've mentioned my leo = 17 years old. I've been giving people leo advice for 16 years. Leos can thrive withOUT UVB. No UVB is really OK.
    3. *** Please measure his total length from tail tip to snout.
    4. *** Vital: Please take a 60 second video of your leo walking around on a flat surface outside his cage like on a carpet. Post it right here. I need to see whether he has MBD. IF he has MBD, he did not get it in just 1 week (12/15-12/21).
    5. He still needs a 20 long.
    6. The 15 watt bulb JUST gives your leo a photoperiod so he can tell days from nights.
    7. I don't believe that Facebook's Reptile Lighting group would have approved your 18 inch "box" tank. That Reptile Lighting group usually knows it's stuff. It's the best group around on lighting + heating + enclosure size!

    Thumbs up

The cool side is 71.4 degrees an hot area is 89-94 closer to the probe. Then was told to use calcium with d3 Then vitamins 3 days later Then calcium with no d3 3 days later. She has been leaving stools daily. Can take a photo of her tomorrow.
She just been missing food an walks oddly.
/\ /\ /\ In your latest PM, this is what you say.

Please try this: Moisten your finger & then dip your finger in some DRY calcium + D3. See whether she will lick that off your finger.

IF she's been walking oddly for only about a week, her symptoms CAN be totally reversed!

The medical term for Metabolic Bone Disease = Nutritional Secondary HyperParathyroidism. MBD symptoms include leaning to one side when walking, walking on one or both "elbows", bowed limbs, belly dragging, and an underbite. Difficulty chewing should be closely monitored.

Using slate an easy liner for a floor bottom. Using tile over the heat mat. Not sure if I should add uvb reptisun 5.0 because it's a albino. Plus over head lamp for viewing because of this also. Please don't give up on your leo. How can I better help him/her out?

A photo = 1,000 words! Let's remove extra hides (beyond the required 3 hides), so your leo has more room to walk around.

A calcium dish is just a dish where calcium powder goes. One can just use a small jar lid. A calcium dish is NOT suggested at all. Regular supplementing is necessary.

Be sure to add calcium + D3 right away, John. Without vitamin D3, any plain calcium will not be absorbed. Vitamin D3 prevents MBD.

Your 15 watt overhead bulb provides a photoperiod for your leo, so she can tell days from nights.

    From the bottom up:
    3. Next add slate tile or slate chunks to absorb heat.
    2. Next you'll have the tank's glass bottom.
    1. Stick your heat mat onto the glass underneath the enclosure.

Plus over head lamp for viewing because of this also.
IF you feel your 15 watt incandescent bulb is too bright for your albino leopard gecko, try dimming that bulb to half power. Maybe your 5.5 inch diameter Fluker's dome clamp lamp already came with an inline dimmer. If not, those are available.

Home Depot's $5 digital timer will turn off your 15 watt bulb automatically: 12 hours on, then 12 hours off.
