I am going to be switching Donnie from a halogen bulb for basking (which hasn't been effective and he doesn't seem to like at all) to a deep heat projector.

I just got the 50W Arcadia DHP (I'd rather start lower and get a bigger one if needed than to over heat him). I have a thermostat for it, but I'm not sure about the actual fixture to put it in.

Would that be good for a 50W DHP?

I have a bit of flexibility as far as finding and ordering the appropriate fixture. Donnie is currently mid-shed, in a new location in the house, and our AC is down. Too much happening to try and add another variable right now.

Do you see any special instructions on the DHP packaging itself?

OK, what it says:
4" 100mm 55C
8" 200mm 45C
12" 300mm 36C
16" 400mm 29C

Which distance from basking spot.
Other than that, it just indicates it can be used with a cage or clamp.
