Can I safely keep a leopard gecko on top of a fridge?

I just moved to a studio apartment in Los Angeles and always had plans to get another leopard gecko after my last one of 20 years. The place is great with heat insulation. The thing is, my place is rather small, leaving only the closet and the fridge as spaces to hold a 20gal terrarium. I read that the closet is out of the question due to lighting issues and bacteria build up. My friend told me that fridges emit heat, but I couldn't feel anything coming out of my fridge. Would having one on top of the fridge be comfortable/safe? There's an outlet for a lamp and a window right next to the fridge and it would be sitting across from another window on the other side of the room. Otherwise, I'll just wait until I can upgrade to a bigger space in a few years.

Nice studio apartment you have there! Personally I would wait due to safety reasons. You would have to climb on a ladder or something in order to reach the tank daily for things like feeding and cleaning. You can fall, drop the GLASS tank and your Leo. Not to mention some refrigerators are noisy

The noisiness could be a problem. I have had an enclosure that I have to stand on a stool to reach for many years. I used to have red eyed tree frogs and now I have a gargoyle gecko up there. As long as you have a front opening enclosure (you're never going to be able to easily reach into a top opening one) and a stool, I think it should work out. My enclosure is on top of a 5' high shelf unit and I'm 5'2"!
