alright so i just got my new heating pad in the mail and it's a little more awkwardly shaped than i expected. the package says it's for 40-50 galon tanks, but to me it looks like it covers only slightly more than 1/3 of the surface area of the tank floor. it has to be placed on the wide edge, the long edge will not fit the entire pad. i'm assuming it can't be cut or altered. i put the heating pad on the top of the enclosure so you can compare. would this be unsuitable?

It's perfectly fine, the UTH should only cover 1/3 of the tank, never more than 1/2 of the tank. That size looks like it fits perfectly. You may need to re-arrange your decors & hides, but that shouldn't be a problem. There needs to be a warm hide sitting on the UTH, a moist hide somewhere off to the side but also on a warm spot, and a cold hide completely off and away from the UTH.

And no you can't cut them. If they don't fit going one way, just place them the way you have it shown.
