Default How cant I encourege to eat mealworms?

My leopard gecko doesnt seem to care for the mealworms to much, they just sit in his/her dish, he/she doesnt go up and peek in the dish or nothing. I took a mealworm out and set it in front of him/her and he/she just licked the mealworm and walked off didnt eat it or nothing. He/she does eat crickets though so ate least he/she is eating! Its funny watching him/her eat, he/she all wiggles the tip off his/her tail and charges, haha WHat can I do to help him/her want to eat mealworms or waxworms?

(I tryed to edit the title but couldnt figure out how haha its supposed to be "How can I encourage to eat mealworms"

Do the meal worms wiggle or move around much? cause my leos will not eat them unless they are alive/moving/wiggling. I got my first leo to eat meals worms by holding them up to him with a pair of tweezers. The worm would wiggle in the tweezers, thus activating the leos hunting instincts. As soon as he had the worm i would let go of it. Now he just eats them out of his bowl everyday. :]

And yes i totally agree with you! They are so cute when they eat. :] Good luck!

Haha cute! I still wish you luck, cause geckos tend to be stubborn. For example, i still can not get my adult mack snow male to eat worms for anything!

If your gecko is eating crickets, just stick with that. Mealworms and waxworms are junk really. Well fed, gutloaded crickets are far more nutritious. So as long as he/she is eating crickets well, there's really no need to force mealworms or waxworms on him. Like the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I agree 100% with Ethan. Crickets are also good for your geckos physically and mentally. You can always throw in a few silkworms, phoenix worms, hornworms and roaches for variety. You will have a happier and healthier gecko
