Default The unveiling of my new baby!

the first part may not be necessary, if you don't want to read, skip to the bottom.

I got a second leopard gecko on thursday, I thought she had beautiful patterns even if she is very young and just a normal.
The initial placing of her in the cage was stressful, to be expected, but my other girl is no larger than her so I wasn't too worried.
My original three legged girl, named tripod, tried to be as intimidating as possible- standing (as high as possible) as best she could on her three remaining legs, yet toppling over from time to time.
after roughly 10 minutes of this, they calmed down and within a day were snuggled together in the hide.

Anyway, the problem is, although no stress is observed in her activities, she has yet to eat, I know this is reasonably common to happen for a few days, but today when I fed the two she didn't even care for the cricket right in front of her face.
the questions-
when should I become worried?
what can I do?

edit: how silly am I? pictures!

my new girl is the one with all her legs, and a full tail.
...I made a mess with the calcium powder

hmm that picture is really cute by the way and nice mess with the calcium powder.
I don't know too much but maybe you could try hand feeding it a mealy? Maybe it would like that instead of a cricket?

I can certainly try
It's not that she just doesn't care for crickets (by that I mean, I've cared for leo's at work that will ignore crickets and only go for mealys) Because I was one of four or so people to feed the juveniles at work, and they never got any special care other than crickets. Her tummy is clearly quite chubby (even compared to my tang who eats like CRAZY) and she's too small for her tail to have much size yet.
I'll remember to pick up a few mealys at work tomorrow.

hi, i'm new but I hang out on the other forums constantly

Tripod is the cutest thing ever!

My first worry is- you should REALLY keep any new pet quarantined for awhile before putting it with your other pets. She might have parasites, or other things, and you should make sure she is fat and healthy before stressing her out with a cage mate. Also, if you are keeping them together at this age, be careful cuz you don't know if one or both is male, and that could lead to fights later or babies at too young an age! If you can, I recommend getting a fecal sample to the vet to check for parasites - they can go undetected for a long time and now that you have exposed Tripod to whatever she might have had - it's just probably a good precaution. So, your questions...

become worried if she doesn't eat in over a week or if you see dramatic weight loss.
let her be for awhile, don't handle her or anything until she eats to reduce stress.
try feeding her tiny mealworms (which is probably what she ate in the pet store) and make sure they are properly dusted and gut loaded since she might be malnourished.

Check her belly for dark black or blue spots (sign of impaction) and make sure her poop is solid, black n white, good sized, and free of sand or particles.

If she doesn't eat in a week, post a new thread and I'll have a thousand more ideas for you
Sorry it's so much, but I thought I'd give you a full answer - GOOD LUCK!

Hi,

Your newby looks really, really cute!!!
The time they can spend without eating anything, depends mostly on their reserves. Believe it or not, but I had a very sick female who diddn't want to eat anything. I gave her fluids every day, medication, vitamines and all, but everytime I forced her to eat a cricket or a mealworm, she regurgitated...
I then gave up on her, and stopped the force-feeding. I assumed she would die in a matter of days, but after 3 and a half!!! months, skinny as hell, she suddenly came back to life!!
Now she is recovering slowly, her tail is still very thin but she eats like a horse again!
Keep a close eye on her tail, and her activity. That should work.
Good luck with your little girl, and her tree-legged roommate!
Kind regards,

Cindy

It would have been nice had you cared to read my previous post.

I have been caring for her for over a month.
I work at the pet store I bought her from.
I have been feeding her crickets.
I have been making sure she is healthy.
She hasn't been in contact with anything that could impact her, especially sand.
She is active and not shy around my other gecko, I simply wanted to know that even though her behavior shows no signs of stress, she has suddenly stopped eating, and how to change this.

Seems like you've had a lot of useful input already, just wanted to say they're are gorgeous! I'm sure I've said that about Tripod before but the new one is just as lovely! I love the blue around her eyes

Hmm, it's been 2 days. I'm curious as to whether she has eaten or not. Hopefully so!
