Default Help! Showing signs of MBD

Hey everyone, I am a bit dumbfounded as to what is happening with my leopard gecko.

I feed every other day dusted gutloaded crickets(non D3 calcium powder) and sometimes a few supers. I also keep a dish with calcium in the cage at all times. AND she is partially exposed to some UV lighting from the tank next to hers.

Well for the last monthe her legs and toes have become extremely rubbery (which i know are the starting stages of MBD) In particular her two front legs are quite soft (when she walks they bend in ways they shouldnt) with her hind legs being more stable. Her jaw appears normal as does her spine so I am not to concerned as to the severity of this. Also she has a full helthy tale as well as maintaing a healty weight.

Why is this happening? What should I do to remedy it?

I dont know about your problem but i heard that it is best to use No d3 in the dish in the tank like you did , But it is also better to dust the food with D3. Also ( maybe im wrong but if i remember well ) , The UV cannot pass trough glass. Maybe some will pass but it is in really small quantities. Also , You should dust your crickets with vitamins once in a while to make sure your leo have all the vitamins he needs.
Hope someone will know exactly whats the problem and that you will be able to cure it fast.

The best thing to do would probably be to go to a vet. Typically x-rays (albeit expensive) are the most effective way to see the bones and asess their condition. And then your vet could get you started on liquid calcium supplements to help stop and maybe reverse the effects of MBD. Meanwhile, I guess you could try high calcium insects, like phoenix, butter, and silk worms plus the supplements you're using already. Because remember that too much calcium will make your gecko sick, so I think it's more cautious to try to give her calcium-rich insects and let your vet determine how much extra she needs based on her weight and condition.

Just my two cents, anyway.

Good news, after supplementing some crickets with vitamin powder containing D3, my female leo has shown significant change in her legs. They have become noticably more firm and dont bend nearly as much.

My guess is that she had enough calcium but was having problems utilizing it w/o proper amounts of D3.

I hope she will eventually fully recover.

Thanks
