Hi there,

I have a baby leo, approximately 6 to 8 weeks old, I got it on Feb 23rd and it ate one mealworm (small), the next day it puked up the mealworm and haven't eaten since : ( I have been giving it a soak in warm water and it has been pooping. I have tried some baby food (chicken) on it's nose, mouth and it will lick it off. It has no interest in crickets or mealworms, I tried putting some in front of it's face, but it just turns away. I tried putting him/her in a separate container with a cricket and mealworm, but nope, it just wanted to get out of the travel container.

I have it in a 12X12 exo terra, with a tile as substrate and i have a moist hide, warm hide, calcium dish, water dish and uth. the temp on the warm side is mid to high 80's. I went and got some pedialyte and put some in it's bath tonight and put some in the water dish. I've seen him/her lick the calcium once. I have to bring a stool sample to the vet on Monday, what is the best method of obtaining this and keeping it so that it's still good for the vet? What else can I try to get it to eat? I really hope it's okay. It hasn't shed since I've had it. S/he just wants to sleep. We only have a dog/cat vet here in town so they're not really sure what's wrong with it.

Thanks.

Hi ~

Living in Labrador I don't know whether you are going to find a vet who deals with exotics. You could do a google search for one.

You seem to be doing the right thing. I just have a few suggestions:

Wrap the poop sample in a damp paper towel, put it in a ziploc bag, and refrigerate. DO NOT FREEZE THE SAMPLE. Try to get as fresh a sample as possible!

What are the low temps?

Can you find out what your leopard had been eating before you bought it? Did you get it from a breeder or from a pet store?

Baby leos are notoriously poor hunters! You might try cutting the cricket's back legs off at the "knees" to slow it down and give the leo a fighting chance of catching it.

Have you given it "quiet time" alone?

Sounds like she/he will take chicken baby food off her nose. Try mixing calcium powder in that. BTW, is your calcium powder phosphorous-free?

Hi

Thanks for the info!

I have the reptivite from zoo meds with D3. That's what we were given when we bought our first Leo. (Pet Store).

We got our baby Leo from a pet store aswell, but a different one. My neice picked it up at the shop and then travelled 2 days by car to get it home. It was fed crickets in the pet shop, and they had sand as substrate but it is pooping. I'm not sure what the temp on the cool side is, we only have the one thermometer and it's on the warm side.

This morning when I checked on it, it seems S/he has gotten worse, looks really bad skinny. like it's belly is sucked in at times? not sure how to explain it. It didn't have a poo last night, but it's bum looks like it has a bit of crust on it and on the bottom of it's tail. It's hard to get a pic because I don't like to handle him unless I really have to. We let it rest for about a week before we started handling him/her for baths because it never poo'd for the first week and we thought it may of been impaction, so we gave it a couple baths and it did poo and has been every since. It's last poo was really runny and light in colour, but I thought that could of been from the chicken baby food. I took a pic of him/her this morning, I'll try to attach one.

If it is realllllly sick and I know it won't recover I'd like to have him put down instead of having it suffer for weeks, starving itself to death.

: ( Thanks.

brought me gecko to the vet today, sad to say that he didn't make it.

the vet said they could feel something hard in it's belly and suspected it was impacted. The pet store had the baby gecko's on sand.
