Default Keeping leos warm in event of a power outage

Hi all --

I live in an area that's about to get pounded by a blizzard. If my power goes out, I could be stuck for 1-2 days without it. Are there any good ways to keep a leo's tank temperature up without electricity?

I buy in bulk shipping heat packs. The kind you rub and shake to activate. The ones I get are 40 hour heat. =] I buy them locally at LLL Reptile, but if you're where it snows then you're pretty far and they'll ship.

Try heat packs at walmart? They'll get much hotter than you'd like so don't put them directly on the heat source. If you can get them in at least 65F, then they should be fine for a couple days.

You can get heatpacks at Walmart/Target etc in the hunting/camping section. Be careful with them. As Allee mentioned they can get very hot. They also don't last as long as claimed. But they're very inexpensive and will do the trick for a few days if needed.

Thanks. Just to update, my roommate just called and told me our power's out... And the snow hasn't even started yet. Looks like I'll be swinging by Target after work.

Just to confirm, it's not OK to tape them to the outside of the glass of his terrarium? What's the best way of utilizing them?

It really depends on how cold things get etc. Taping them to the outside of the tank may work. Or you might need to wrap them in paper towels to make the heat a bit less direct, etc. You'll just have to play around with them to see what works for your situation. But dont just throw them in the tank and assume that they're not going to be too hot.
