Default Would this work as a humid hide?

Hi, I'm about to get my first leopard geckos and I'm wondering if this will work as a humid hide? The reason I am asking is because it seems more open than what people would normally use.

Keep in mind the top picture is using flash so it looks brighter than it really is. Once I get an overhead light it will be even shadier in there. The moss is hiawatha moss and is a year old.

Heres the full setup:

I don't want to use the other caves as a humid hide because the inside's made out of cardboard and it might mold.

The only way to know is to try it and see how well it holds the humidity. It seems a bit open to me. But it may work.

It might. Depends on how hot your uth gets. Only one way to find out.

Lets hope that the geckos do not make the cave their toilet! I have had that happen to me several times.

Yeah, pretty much. I leaned the wood against the back of the tank and put the great stuff around it. Be sure not to put too much great stuff, because carving out the inside was a pain. All the brown mounds in the tank were made with Great Stuff.

i think im going to have to try that out! thanks & that humid hide will probably lose moisture too quickly btw since it is so open.. however im sure your gecko will really like walking around in there and climbing on it

I'm glad I could help you, and thank you for your input. I do have a change of plans now, I've decided on adding an extra hide in there that will be less open for the moss pit.

Perhaps you can use the great stuff around the bottom of a tupperware container (turned upside down with a hole cut in it of course), leaving the part where the lid connects free of the stuff. Then you can set it on the lid and, presto, you have a humid hide. I would suggest using a different material than moss as well since moss doesn't retain moisture as well as paper towels.
