Default Leopard Gecko Heating

I've been thinking about what I want to use to heat my leopard gecko's enclosure. Instead of using a UTH, could I use a 50-60 watt ceramic heat emitter? I'll be using slate tile as a substrate.

What size is your tank and what is the ambient room temperature?

I recently found that a 60 watt ceramic heat emitter only raised the tank temperature to about 83 F in a 20 gallon long tank in a 70 F temperature room. I have upgraded to a 100 watt CHE, but have yet to check it out. I may have to use a dimmer. The red bulb I am currently using keeps the temperature at 90 F on the warm end.
