Hi all,

I was wondering why it was that my larger leopard gecko seems to be eating less than my smaller ones, my smaller ones who are between 1 and 3 years old will continuously accept crickets when I offer them, however my larger leopard gecko who is about 5 years old will only take maybe 2 then will not eat anymore while my smaller ones will eat much more then that.

I am wondering if he may be sick or something, he seems fine behavior wise but I am worried something may be wrong.

I have a heat pad under both tanks, and they each have a day bulb that is on a 12/12 schedule. My larger gecko is in a 10 gallon tank since he is alone, and my other smaller ones are in a 40 gallon tank. they each have two hides in both tanks, for cold and warm areas. My large gecko has sand in his tank and the other two have this coconut soil type dirt. (not sure what its called)

Your younger geckos may still be growing. If this is not the case and thier the same size younger geckos may just be more active and therefore require more fuel. I find that my older animals usually require less than the younger ones. Thier nutritional needs seem to level out substantially. Also, ever lizard is different and it may be as simple as that. I personally wouldn't worry until you see some symptom, though you need to be acutely aware of these and observe closely, because often times by the time we see symptoms it is too late

It is normal for smaller geckos to eat more, and more active and need more food. Juvenile geckos should eat 3-4 small crickets everyday but Adult geckos usually eat 3-4 large crickets every other day. Some adult geckos eat everyday, depends on the gecko.
