Default How Should I Set Up My Under Tank Heater For My Baby Leo and other questions Help plz

I have constructed ceramic tiles the same measurements as my 10 gallon tank. I have a dial type thermometer that is 3/4s up the left side of the tank on the hot side. I have a digital thermometer that is placed inside his hide located on the left side of the tank that is currently reading between 80.7 and 81 F. What is the ideal temperature this should be? I also purchased a thermostat to regulate the temperature of the Repti Therm UTH. FYI - His substrate is reptile carpet.
My questions are:

1. Do I put the UTH under the ceramic tile and the tank on top of the ceramic tile slate?
or
2. Do I just put the UTH directly under the glass on the hot side and the ceramic tile on top?
or
3. Should I just forget about the ceramic tile and just use the rubber feet while regulating the temperature withe the thermostat?

Forgot to add....I noticed that he is about to SHED! Please help

I have set up a hide on the cool side of his tank with damp moss for which to help him with the shedding process, the areas above that reads 77 F. It's been a week I've had him and I haven't seen him go and explore that side of the tank yet unless I place him there which I've only done once. My questions for this are:

1. Since he hasn't explored the hide on the cool side with the damp moss should I put some damp moss in side his hide that he loves on the hot side of the tank?
or
2. Do I try coax him into the hide with the damp moss?

Please I'm looking for informative feedback and any input is greatly appreciated! Many Thanks!

This is all stuff you should have had figured out before you got him.

No (in my opinion) on the reptile carpet. They can get claws stuck or lose toes. Use with caution.

The UTH goes under (or on the side) the glass. Did it come with feet to elevate the tank slightly? FAQ question #1. ReptiThermŽ U.T.H.

Best of luck.

Ground temp on the warm side should be close to 90-94F.
UTH goes on the bottom of the glass tank. The tiles will help distribute the heat. I would also recommend getting rid of the reptile carpet and just using the tiles. They'll be much better.
You'll need to use the rubber feet anyways. You don't want to set the tank on the cord of the UTH. That will break it very quickly. If your UTH didn't come with the feet you can just use 2 liter bottle caps. I've used them for a while. They work great.
Your cool side temps seem to be ok.
Move the humid hide with the moss to the warm side of the tank. Just switch it with the one on the warm side currently.
Don't try to coax him to do anything. Just fix the husbandry issues and let your little guy settle in. Don't try to bother him for 2 weeks to give him time to adjust to life in his new home.
Any other questions? Just ask.
