You should check out the substrate thread that is stickied to the top of this forum. TONS of substrate information. A very popular choice these days for a safe and naturalistic substrate is natural slate tile. It's fairly cheap and easy to get at most any Home Depot type store. However, I still recommend reading the substrate thread as it's always good to educate yourself on all of the various options available.

I second natural slate tile! I just switched all of my tanks with heating elements from paper towels over to slate tiles! Looks great, holds heat, easy to clean, cheap, and basically no risk of impaction.

Agreed, slate tile, best chioce, and regarding his morph he is a SHT, but in that picture I canīt really see the carrot tail, perhaps for the lightning of the picture, for it to be carrot tail is has to have at least 15% of his tail colored in solid orange.... he is a beautiful animal anyways!!! Looks great

I agree. Slate is great.

I personally use clay/ quarry tiles that were cut to fit in my tank.

Paper towel. This will allow you to monitor pooping and eating. Also it wont be eaten up by the gecko during eating. Furthermore, paper towel is cheap and easy to replace and it dries up quicker then other material.
