Default My new gecko and a few questions

I just purchased my new leopard gecko bruce/lucy. He/she feed the day after I got him so I take that as a good sign. I can't get a picture to upload so ill try to get some up later. As for the questions, what should I use for a moist hide? If I put some silk leafy vines would he/she use them?

Thanks, Parker

A moist hide must maintain humidity. Silk plants won't do that. Best thing to use is spagnum moss. It maintains humidity very well, plus it's cheap. In a pinch, I've used Paper towels and kept them moist. But they don't keep moisture for very long.

I'm sure they would useit to hide in, if it's the only thing available, but it wouldn't offer them much for security. Also, it depends on the gecko. It doesn't hurt to try.

Hi Parker ~

A hearty welcome to Geckos Unlimited!

Check out your local pet store for hides or look online. A really simple hide can be made of an overturned plastic butter container---though not very visually appealing. There are black plastic tunnel-like hides, MagNaturals which can clamp to the side of your tank, log hides, preformed plastic hides......There should be the moist hide on the warm end of the tank filled with dampened moss or paper towel strips and a second hide on the cool end of the tank.
