Default can geckos climb ?

has anyone ever seen a baby leo climb the sides? I know they shouldnt be able to but they say that about panther geckos also and I have seen panther babies and adults climb the sides and walk upside down on screen tops. So just wondering if my babies are safe if i leave the lid ajar for more light and air.

I had one of my babies almost escape. There was some plastic plants to give it a head start but it also had to scramble up the glass. If I would not have been there it would have gotten out for sure so I wouldn't leave the lid ajar unless you were there to keep an eye on them

They do not have the ability to climb glass like a tokay or other arboreal species. But they can jump and they can climb up wood or perhaps even certain plastics, plants, or other cage furniture, etc. So be cautious and always better safe than sorry.

Leopard geckos don't have lamellae which is what arboreal geckos have that makes them stick to glass and other smooth vertical surfaces. Leo's are terrestrial and don't need to climb up smooth surfaces. Instead they burrow. This doesn't mean though that your leo won't try his hardest to escape if he feels the need to. My leo's all love to climb and explore. Some people will tell you that a lid isn't necessary for leo enclosures but I like to err on the side of caution and provide them with a screen top just in case. If you have cats, they've been known to get geckos out of tanks without lids. I would put your lid on at all times just in case. Better safe than sorry.

They're very good at jumping, you'll be surprised. I didn't know they could jump high until I witnessed one of my geckos jump almost to the top of a 20 gallon tank. Don't underestimate them

So while they don't got sticky pads to climb like arboreal geckos, they can jump pretty high, and their claws are good at digging into things that aren't smooth. What they also do often is to sit on their tail and use their tail to lift themselves up, while clawing their way straight up. Funny creatures.

I took one of mine out to play with it, put it in a cardboard box, and it climbed straight up and out of the box! I was lucky I caught it! :P
