Default Little shedding trouble ...

Hi,

My gecko HBK is 1 and a half and he has never had any trouble shedding. On his last shed I've noticed he left some old skin behind on one of his front feet, just around the toes.

I gave him a little bath soak and rubbed as much as I could off with a cotton tipped ear bud. There is still a little bit remaining on two of his toes.

Any ideas how to get rid of it?

Do you keep enough humidity in his enclosure?? Does he have a moist hide?? More than getting rid of this skin IŽd advise fixing what caused it to stay there in the first place, because otherwise youŽll have the same problem with every shed, if you rise the humidity a bit this old skin could come off in his next shed

the humidity hasn't changed and like I said he has never had a problem before. He loves his moist hide and stays there as much as he can lol!

What i would do is soak him, and work at it with a Q-tip. With mine, i would be able to just gently pull it away with my fingernails if it was a little loose... good luck though

Some geckos are just bad shedders, maybe try another soak?? but anyways I would rise the humidity a little bit, you can add another water dish right on top of the UTH just to get those levels up a bit, spraying the enclosure when you notice he is going to shed is also a good idea

Carol - a moist hide is a container such as an appropriate sized tupperware or butter tub with a whole cut into it for access. You can use paper towels, Eco earth or vermiculite to line the bottom and mist it every few days or as needed to create a humidity chamber of sorts. Works great to aid shedding. Leopards love them!!!! Hope this helps!!

Eco Earth is fine, but don't use vermiculite which have caused magnesium poisoning in geckos from digesting it.

Keeping it with moist paper towel is so cheap, easy and risk free! I highly recommend it!! Mist it every other day and iŽll stay nice and moist
