Default Leopard Gecko lighting... sorry to be bothersome

Im sorry to seem annoying with my posts I just want to get it all right so these two leos can live comfortably and there is not more adjusting.... My room being in the basement rarely gets light. I want to manipulate the natural light cycle and I have just been leaving the natural lighting in my room on for 12 hours with the infared bulb and CHE making it close to 92 degrees ( still waiting on my thermostat to bump it up to 95 degrees). I also leave the CHE and infared bulb on at night leaving the same temp on the hot side but shut my lights off. I was wondering if a desk lamp over them from a distance and shutting my room lights off is a good approach because my mom is starting to complain about me "wasting electricity" by leaving my room lights on.

Also at night do you recommend I shut the CHE off and just use the infared bulb?

Either way your going to waste electricity You can use a 15 or 25 watt incandescent bulb since basements can be very dark. Ex:http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Daylig.../dp/B0002AQD1I 10 hours in the winter/ 12 in the summer of light. Just make sure they have enough hides. If there enclosures drop below 70 at night, I would leave the CHE on.

you can also buy a heating pad ((if you dont have one yet)). that will also help him alot with him staying warm. and for his belly to stay warm BUT you would only put the heatting pad on the hot side of the cage.
PS THE HEATING PAD STAY ON 24/7.

Most important is you need an under tank heater. This is not just to keep your leo warm but it is a must for them to digest their food.
You will need to make sure the temp above the UTH is 88*-96* at all times. To cold, cant digest food, to hot, can damage the tyroid.
The desk lamp is fine, just as long as there is light somewhere in your room during the day, dark at night, it is important that they know the difference between the both.
IMO I think you are "wasting electricity" from the CHE and Infrared then from a UTH. You do not need the CHE and Infrared if you had a UTH. I believe they are only 4 watts verses both of what your using.
Good Luck!

He has one already. This is a continuing post from another thread He just wants to provide a photoperiod and his basement is dark. A heat mat alone will not provide enough heat if the basement is too cold. That bulb being coated in blue is not very bright by the way.

I wonder how they survive in the wild..
They do not have heating pads..
They live in Burrows to get away from heat..
They don't have IR Basking spots at night
I wonder if they Migrate to a Sunny Climate this time of Year

Weekly Weather Forecast for Kabul Afghanistan
Tonight Partly Cloudy 16 °F
Tomorrow Partly Cloudy 36 °F
Tomorrow Night Partly Cloudy 10 °F
Thursday Clear 32 | 12 °F
Friday Mostly Cloudy 37 | 12 °F
Saturday Clear 36 | 10 °F

and in Pakistan
Badin 59 °F
Bahawalnagar 54 °F
Bahawalpur 59 °F
Balakot 48 °F
Bar Khan 46 °F
Battal 30 °F
Bunji 7 °F
Cherat 48 °F
Chhor 63 °F
Chillas 12 °F

Obviously We see that the weather conditions get below 70*f At Times..We know Nights get colder naturally

I wonder how much the advice about temperatures is to keep the Animals at optimum breeding conditions year around to produce as much offspring as possible

I think you also have to take into consideration that the stone in the wild collects and holds heat quite well which may help when temps drop

Natural stone caves stay around 55/65*F I believe
They may warm fast but they also cool fast to the touch..

You can choose to keep YOUR geckos in those temperatures if you wish, but I guarantee you will not like the results. If you have known anyone that actually lived at least in Pakistan you would know the temperatures fluctuate greatly and vary within region. One set of temperatures is nothing to go by. You would only know if you were the size of a gecko and squeezed yourself between rocks or underground in order to really know how they manage. Only our geckos truly know All we know is the sad results that come after improper heating within such small living areas.
