My first leo
This is me new baby leo.(in picture) I'm not sure what sex she is, she's too young to tell, but I'm just calling her a her for now. She's 2 months old and very adventurous. I named her Oatmeal, but that's subject to change because I do want a name that fits her personality a bit more. Surprisingly she's very lovey. She was only skiddish for the first few hours and got used to my hands fairly quick. I just got her yesterday and when I put my hand into the cage she crawls right on me! I saved her from a breeder that was negleting her and only feeding her bought -already-dead meal worms (ick!) so that's why she looks a bit skinny. I'm afraid since she's been use to the already dead food she won't take to live prey, but I'll definitely be trying to get her to switch over hopefully soon. I plan on taking her to the vet soon for a check up just to make sure she's healthy and parasite free (her living conditions weren't that great or clean). The breeder I bought her from focuses on snakes and Oatmeal was 'not planned for' and the breeder had already gotten rid of her parents by the time she hatched. I'm greatly worried she may have some problems in the future. So far though she has explored her whole cage and has licked everything (which i find so cute!) The breeder gave me the rest of her supply of food since she won't be needing it and Oatmeal looks like she's eating alright and doesn't pay attention to the live crickets and meal worms I've been introducing to her (hope that changes). She loves crawling onto my shoulder and just riding around on it .
My only concern is today she's been very immobile in her cage. Just staying in one place and not moving. This has been all day. But when I put my hand in the cage she runs right up to it and climbs up my arm. Her cage is a 10 gallon tank. At the moment one side is around 90 degrees and the other side is in the 70's which I was told was a good temperature gradient.(and with the research I did before receiving her) Both sides has a hide and the hot side hide has a bit of moisture. She at all times has a shallow dish of water and a small dish of the already dead stuff that she has been eating, and ofcourse a little calcium in a dish. I only put live prey in her cage when I'm there and take it back out so it doesn't bother her. Is this normal for a new one to be just sitting in one place for a long time? I would think a young one would be energetic and curious about her new surroundings and would be out and about. She's my first one so I'm very afraid of making mistakes. And if any of you have any of 'those' stories please share! I really don't want to mess up horribly. I just want her to be living a comfortable life and to be more healthy than she was in her home before.
Thanks!
