You have given several suggestions here which are contrary to what is BEST for leopard geckos:
You are definitely right that calci-sand is a huge NO! Best substrate for leos is slate tile, not reptile carpet. Leos have a tendency to get their claws and teeth stuck in reptile carpet.
A 10 gallon tank makes it impossible to establish the required thermal gradient from the lo to mid 90s to the 70s.
Leopard geckos NEED
100% calcium in a shallow lid 24/7 in their tanks. The type of calcium ones needs to dust the prey is a
phosphorus-free calcium with D3 powder. One brand is Rep-Cal.
Leopard geckos do NOT live in tropical environments!
