As usual, it depends on the experience you want. I'm not very familiar with golden geckos but I know they're arboreal and my sense is that they aren't that easy to handle. African fat tails can easily be handled, are slow moving and terrestrial and tend to hide a lot. It may be helpful to google some care sheets for each and decide based on that.
