Default Question about my substrate before i put plants

hi,

so i finially got everything i needed for my soil and all that but I dont feel very confident that it's ok (i just read the guide posted on here) so here is what i did ( i dont remember the exact portions i used though);

Top
Sphagnum moss (which is looking really dry, but it didnt say to put it in water first?)
Mis of: Lump Wood Charcoil, Coco Substrate & ReptiBark (couldnt find orchid basrk)
Hydro clay
Bottom

does that sound good? Here is a picture

some of the soil fell on the hydroclay but there is a screen seperator.

does that look good for planting plants?
also i found ZooMed's Terrarium Moss which says its just sphagnum moss, could I use that instead of what i am currently using?it looked greener and less...dead

thanks for much

spagnum moss easily gets moist just from humidity and plant watering, but it looks better when mixed into the rest of the substrate

How large is your tank? I would suggest 2" worth of clay balls and more substrate. Doesn't look very deep for roots

Just wondering did you mix in any Eco-earth or milled peatmoss? Also can't really see the picture that well (on my phone right now) but then lump charcoal how big is it you might have to bread it down a little bit with a hammer.

Eco-earth is cocofiber that comes block that you add water to to expand it. From rereading you first post it does look like you have. I think your main problem is that you quantities are off and you need to mix it more. Do you know how much of each did you use?

i'll be quite honest i tend to guesstimate quite a bit when it comes to substrate but when i first started mixing it this was the general guide lines i used.

2 part peat
1ish part cocofiber
1 part sand
2 parts sphagnum moss (i ground it up so it wasn't stringy)
1 part orchid bark
1 part charcoal
2 parts chopped leaves (when i have them)
